Tour de Fleece

Tour de Flop

Hello Everyone “Tour de Fleece” started at the beginning of July. In case you don’t know, this is an event for spinners. But I believe there are crochet and knit teams as well. Check Ravelry for teams.

Any way, whether you spin, knit or crochet, this is a time when we all get together and spin our little hearts out

I will not be able to join this year because of one moment in time.

I looked out the door to see if the cab was here yet. I turned and walked down the stairs as usual not paying any attention. And BOOM!!! I was down on my hands and knees on the tiled concrete floor.

That was 1 second of not paying attention. I wasn’t able to move my legs. My son was getting ready to stroke out. I called (911). They came, the cab came . But at least things were happening, and he was able to cope. I had to take charge because he froze.

I couldn’t find a printed copy of my Med. Hx. So I had to do everything verbally. I was in the ER for hours. Finally they decided to admit me. My right knee swelled up like a balloon. My left knee not so bad. They gave me pain meds “Thank the Powers that be”.

They wanted to do an MRI. But, apparently there had been another emergency. I had to wait a day to get the MRI and another day to read it. It did not look good

A long, long time ago I was told I would never get out of the wheelchair. I said, “You watch me”! Fast forward to now. I walk with a cane.

I have always been a little strange, don’t tell me I can’t do something. That will be the first thing I do! I have been told things like that my whole life. first it was you can’t just teach yourself how to (insert craft). I always did.

Anyway back to the knee, it is very painful. I am taking meds for everything else, what’s one more. The MRI did not look good. So basically I’m resting the knee. I have a brace on that leg and I’m back in the chair, but I’m looking at knee surgery on the right. And knee surgery on the left in the future.

I thought for sure that was the end of Tour de Flop, but I can actually spin on my spindles and my Wheel. The action happens in the ankle not the leg, so I can still do it but slowly.

So I can still do what I love, just slower. I love making beautiful Yarns. I dye up the fiber after I have chosen the mix. Then I spin, so no two skeins are alike even within the same dye lot.

Be very careful of those 1 second mistakes they can set you back a bit. I have a lot of rehab ahead of me. But I will get through in record time and get back out of this chair!

Humans and The Arts

Since the dawn of time Humans have been learning the Arts. Early man covered themselves for warmth with animal hides (early fashion). They made symbols on cave walls (early painting and storytelling) then came fire, and all hell broke loose. As we rush through history to modern times, Humans have learned many crafts. It would be a daunting task indeed to master them all.

But in that time Arts and Politics have rarely met. You could argue the point by saying politics shaped the human race and therefore dictated the Arts as well.

When they let us have computers, we found like minded crafters further apart. Since we couldn’t talk to our maiden Aunt twice removed on our maternal great grand mother’s side, we couldn’t ask her to teach us! The online knitting, spinning, crocheting, weaving ect….. communities were born! People could talk to each other around the world. As the world became more complicated we looked for support in our crafts and our communities.

I myself have a lot of different hobbies, but they all involve at least one stick and some string. As I got older and more disabled my hobbies became my life, my therapy, my love. I poured my heart and soul into everything I did.

When I first found the knitting (crocheting, spinning) communities, I was very scared to get involved. But I told myself if anyone on this planet would understand a lunatic like me, it would be those communities. I have never been interested in anyone’s religious beliefs, politics, or gender. All I am interested in is Art. I know that I live in the past a lot. But that’s just me. I have never discussed my religion, sex or politics with people who are not involved in my day to day life. I was raised that these things are not discussed in public, that these were private matters. Not to be discussed in public.

Most of these things were further enforced by my profession. As a Nurse, I was taught to be understanding of other peoples beliefs and privacy. To be respectful at all times. There are rules and boundaries that should be upheld. And Lord, if you love your job, NEVER EVER discuss religion or politics at work. Or make socially inappropriate comments about anyone else’s appearance, size or sexual orientation.

It really hurts me to see people that were friends yesterday, are now enemies due to their beliefs. I have friends who have different beliefs than I do, but that has nothing to do with our friendship. We’re friends because we have our Art in common. That’s enough to talk about for me. I don’t think it’s my business to know everything about them, if they feel they need me to know more about them than that, they will tell me if not, I don’t pry into it. I don’t judge people, its not my job.

My job is to share my Art with anyone who would like to hear about it. My hope is that we as a species will someday learn to live together. So, I will continue to share my blogs and my yarns* with you. But I will not discuss politics, religion, race, creed, color or sexual orientation. Also I will not date anyone from work! So don’t ask!

What Is Color Therapy, What Is It For, And Is It Right For Me?

Colors are all around us. They’re in the natural world, in the homes we live in, the cars we drive, the clothes we wear, and the entertainment we watch. Colors aren’t just meaningless parts of our environment, either. They can change the way we feel and react to different situations. Color therapy uses these powers of color to heal, energize, and soothe us.

What Is Color Therapy?

Color therapy is an alternative therapy that uses colors and their frequencies to heal physical and emotional problems.Color therapy is also known as chromopathy, chromotherapy, or color healing.

What Is Color Therapy Used For?

The goal of color therapy is to correct physiological and psychological imbalances. For instance, if you’re stressed, color therapy can help soothe you so that you can regain your psychological balance. If you’re depressed, color therapy can be used to invigorate you and give you increased energy.

When Did Color Therapy Start?

Color therapy has been around at least since the time of Ancient Egypt. Egyptians believed in the power of light and used different colors of light to promote healing. Color therapy has continued to be important in some cultures. Even in Western societies that tend to prefer modern, institutionalized medicine, natural healers have continued to use colors to help people improve their physical and emotional health.

Although Western medicine doesn’t accept color therapy as such, Western researchers are studying the scientific properties of colored light and the light frequencies within it. Color therapy hasn’t ‘earned’ a place in Western medicine yet, but there’s a strong possibility that it might when all the research results come in.

Colors And Chakras

Eastern medicine is the source of many of the so-called alternative therapies in the Western world. In Indian philosophy, the chakras are considered the centers of spiritual power and energy within our bodies. There are seven chakras, and a different color represents each:

  1. The Root Chakra, located at the base of the spine, is represented by red. This chakra has to do with our grounding and connection with the Earth.
  2. The Sacral Chakra, located 2 or 3 inches below the navel, is represented by orange. This chakra is said to be associated with reproduction, the kidneys and adrenals, and pleasure. It is the mind-body chakra.
  3. The Solar Plexus Chakra, located between the navel and sternum, is represented by yellow. This chakra is associated with the pancreas, liver, digestive system, and gallbladder, as well as positivity, empowerment, and well-being.
  4. Green represents the Heart Chakra. It’s associated with the heart, lungs, and immune system. It’s associated with energy, the nervous system, mental focus, compassion, and empowerment.
  5. The Throat Chakra is represented by blue and is associated with the thyroid and metabolism as well as peaceful expression.
  6. The Third Eye Chakra, located between the eyebrows is represented by indigo and associated the pituitary gland and pineal gland and influences our sleep cycles, self-esteem, clarity, wisdom, and intuition.
  7. The Crown Chakra, located at the top of the head, is represented by violet and associated with the pineal gland, light sensitivity, sleep cycles, dreams, clarity, and spirituality.

Methods Of Delivery For Color Therapy

The alternative healing practice of color therapy relies on the delivery of the light frequencies of color to the body. The light either goes into the body through the eyes or via color therapy equipment.

Through Eyes

One way to take advantage of light therapy is to view the color simply. You look at the color for a few minutes. That’s all there is to the delivery. What you need to be careful with are the colors you choose. Green is considered the safest color. Red and orange may cause you too much excitement and agitation.

Color therapy is individualized as well. What works to help you might make someone else feel worse. For example, if you have a lot of anxiety and need to calm down, blue might be a good color to use. If someone else were depressed, though, blue wouldn’t be a color they should use in color therapy.

Via Color Therapy Equipment

There are various kinds of color therapy equipment. Some of them can be made easily, while others can be ordered for a color therapist’s use. This equipment uses the projection of colored light. Sometimes, the color is projected on a screen, and you look at it. The light comes from specific light bulbs of no more than 500 watts. With color therapy equipment, the colored light can be shone on your skin as well using modern and sometimes high-tech equipment that allows the hue and intensity of the color to be dialed in precisely.

Psychological Effects Of Different Colors

Colors affect our mental processes and can change our mood. Each color has a different effect, so different colors are used for different mental conditions and mood problems. The following list describes how each of the main colors used in color therapy affects us and what they can do for you.

Green

Green is the most balancing of all the colors. Color therapists usually consider green the safest color and typically start color therapy with it. When you’re feeling sad, hopeless, or depressed, green can improve your mood. However, it’s important to have a pure green color, as a light green can cause you to tip into anxiety.

Green is said to enhance the emotions of love, joy, and inner peace. It can bring you hope, strength, and serenity. Green is said to increase your wisdom and facilitate change and independence.

Blue

Blue is a color that must be used with extra care, as it can zap your energy if you’re feeling low. Blue does help you express your feelings, though, and is related to your inner truth. Blue is a cold color that can be used to help you become more peaceful and relaxed. Primary blue is often used in therapy settings used for meditation and relaxation.

Blue can also be associated with wisdom, creativity, loyalty, and spirituality. Too much blue or blue that is too dark can lead to sadness, depression, and a feeling of emptiness. Light blue promotes serenity. It can also be used to help with insomnia.

Yellow

Yellow can be used in color therapy to bring energy and encourage action. This color can make you feel happier. It can bring out your intelligence and wisdom. Too much or too-bright yellows are associated with betrayal, cruelty, and deceit. It can remind us of our mortality. Yellow is the most intense color in the spectrum.

Orange

Orange signifies abundance, pleasure, well-being, and sexuality. Orange may be used to stimulate different organs in the body for physical healing. It revitalizes you and gives you increased mental energy. It can increase your feeling of connectedness between your mind and body. However, color therapists usually avoid this color for you if you’re prone to anxiety.

Red

Red is even more stimulating than orange. It influences emotional issues like financial independence and physical survival. It’s mostly used for physical healing because its emotional effects can be extreme. Color therapists avoid shining red on your head, as this can cause intense agitation. Infrared can also be used by a skilled color therapist if done so with caution. Neither red nor infrared is used for someone who has severe mental conditions.

Purple

Purple is most strongly associated with beauty, spirituality, and bliss. In color therapy, violet is often used on the forehead and neck to initiate feelings of calm and relaxation. However, it’s recommended for use anywhere on the body.

I was really interested in my color choices and the colors in my stash. I thought maybe the reason some projects end up on time out is because of the colors in it. Either way it’s definitely food for thought.

Happy Springtime!

Some say Spring already started. I always associated it with the Holiday celebrations. It’s time for that Spring Cleaning too. The best part of it is lambing season!

All those adorable babies, frolicking around the farm I’ve seen geese on their nests, the chicks are hatched, baby bunnies, ect…

There have been some naughty Burro’s wandering out of their pastures and around towns. We had one on the highway in Illinois. I hear there were quite a few in Las Vegas as well.

I am going to get all my Pots out today and plant some seeds. I let a few of my herbs go to seed last year so I have some for this year. Now if I can only remember where I put them. I seem to be having a senior moment when it comes to that. You know, you put something away so you won’t lose it. Then forget where you put it!

Is anyone spinning today? I don’t drive anymore because I can’t feel the pedals, but someday I will get a truck modified so I can use my hands for the gas and brake. I wonder would that make it a truck that drives like a bike or a bike that rides like a truck? Anyway that’s why I’m home spinning. But since it’s a holiday, I’m spinning for me!

It’s really hard to see because as everyone on earth knows “I can’t take a decent photo”‘ to save my life. It is a brown, blonde mixed with grey, just like my own hair.

I’m hoping to get enough yardage for a lacy shawl, I think that would look nice when I’m in those freezing cold stores. It took me 4 days (8 hr. shifts) to mix it all on my combs. There were many injuries. Those things are sharp we call them my wolverine claws. I think I will card up the left overs and see if ican get something useful out of them.

I haven’t been perfect,by any stretch of the imagination. But I have tried to put at least an hour on each WIP. Anyone doing any knitting or crochet today. maybe something small to bring with to where you are spending the day. If so tell me about it I love reading your comments.
